What matters in web news on October 5, 2026
Every day, our web agency in Tunis sums up what matters for your site and your visibility. Today three topics stand out: the strong presence of AI Overviews on branded searches, Google's clarification on main content quality, and the release of Safari 27 with plenty for developers.
1. AI Overviews expand to branded queries
According to DemandSphere data reported by Search Engine Land, AI Overviews appeared on roughly 27% to 35% of tracked branded queries through much of September 2026. The rate jumped to 69.21% on September 26 and 90.48% on September 27, then settled at 80.23% on September 28.
An independent test by Chris Long (Nectiv) on 100 enterprise brands found AI Overviews for 93 of them. Important caveat: neither measurement covers clicks, so the real impact on branded click-through rate is unknown, and Google made no official announcement.
What you should do
- Search your own brand name and check whether an AI Overview appears and what it says about you.
- Fix inaccurate information at the source: official site, business listings, about pages.
- Track branded clicks in Search Console before drawing conclusions.
2. Google: main content quality is critical
Google quietly updated its helpful content documentation, according to Search Engine Land (October 2, 2026). Main content is described as one of the most critical factors in assessing page quality: text, media, interactive tools, user contributions and headings.
Search quality raters evaluate it on four attributes.
| Attribute | What Google looks at |
|---|---|
| Effort | Visible human work: original analysis, custom tools rather than auto-generated content |
| Originality | Unique information not readily available elsewhere |
| Talent or skill | Expertise needed to satisfy the user |
| Accuracy | Factual correctness, especially on health and wellness topics |
3. Safari 27 is out
Safari 27.0 was released on September 17, 2026. The WebKit blog lists the CSS stretch keyword, anchor positioning improvements, the alpha() function, the :heading pseudo-class, a customizable <select> element, sizes="auto" for responsive images, plus a rewrite of the ES module loader and WebAssembly JSPI support.
If your audience uses iPhone and Mac, test your pages in Safari 27, especially form components and JavaScript modules.
Also worth noting
Per Search Engine Roundtable, Google Local Service Ads show a "Get phone number" button, with the number appearing on hover. Bing is also testing a "Recommended by" section in product results (source).
